In the western world we think of theatre as being largely entertainment and commercially based. Theatre in other parts of the world tends to be more socially aware and politically poignant.
In many developing countries theatre is being used to promote education and awareness about important social and political issues and to give voice to people whose experiences are commonly misrepresented or ignored. This discussion will be presented by Amanda LaForge a junior BA Drama major, in the School of Humanities and Science's department of Theatre Arts, who recently traveled to Cameroon in West Africa to study Theatre for Development in contrast to that of American Theatre and will highlight some similarities as well as differences of Cameroonian and American life.
This important presentation and discussion will be held on Thursday November 30th at 6:00 p.m. in the Clark Lounge of the Campus Center.
Re-Thinking American Theatre is FREE and open to the public.
