Michael Twomey, English, delivered two invited lectures in Germany during the week of November 12th through 18th.

At the Ruhr-Universität in Bochum, Twomey gave a talk titled "De monstris: Teratology in Beowulf" to the Department of English. At the Westfälsche Wilhelms-Universität in Münster, he spoke about "Bartholomaeus Anglicus as a Vademecum for Dramatists in Late Medieval and Early Modern England" in the Institute for Medieval Latin, where Twomey is part of a team of scholars producing the first modern edition of the influential medieval encyclopedia De proprietatibus rerum ('On the properties of things') by the thirteenth-century teacher, Bartholomaeus Anglicus ('Bartholomew the Englishman'). The Münster lecture forms the core of a chapter from a book in progress about the role of medieval encyclopedias in literary composition in the Middle Ages and in the early modern period.
