The National Science Foundation hereby awards a grant of $150,000 to Ithaca College for support of "Creating a Performance-Based Physics Program for Introductory Physics and Astronomy Classes Using the SCALE-UP Model of Teaching Physics," which is under the direction of Prof. Michael Rogers and Prof. Luke Keller, Department of Physics.

The main goal of this project is to deliver more effective physics instruction to Ithaca College science and non-science majors by implementing the Student Centered Activities for Large Enrollment University Programs (SCALE-UP) developed at North Carolina State University. Our objectives are to increase students’ conceptual understanding of physics and astronomy, problem solving abilities, and understanding of the nature of physics and of science in general.

This award is effective January 1 , 2007 and expires December 31, 2009.
