The Handwerker Gallery is pleased to announce “Stubborn Things: New Photographic Work by Ron Jude and Nicholas Muellner,” opening January 22.

Jude and Muellner are both members of the Department of Cinema and Photography. Jude will display work from his "Alipne Star" series, which takes as its source the artist’s home town newspaper and serves to decode the hidden social and cultural undercurrents in these images. Muellner’s work is taken from his recent series "Moscow Plastic Arts", which presents images of Moscow that can be read as a comment on Soviet Socialist Realism and 1960s Minimalism. The exhibition opens on Monday, January 22, and the public is invited to the opening reception from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, January 25. Muellner will deliver a lecture entitled “The Photograph Commands Indifference” at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday, January 31in Gannett 112. He will also give a Gallery talk at 12:15 p.m. on Tuesday, February 6. The exhibition will run through February 18. Signed copies of the artists’ books, "Alpine Star" and "Moscow Plastic Arts" will be available for purchase. Handwerker Gallery events are free and open to the public.
