The "Out of the Closet and onto the Screen" film series continues on Wednesday, January 31, with a showing of "Changing Our Minds: The Story of Dr. Evelyn Hooker" at 7:00 p.m. in Textor 103.

"Changing Our Minds” tells the story of Dr. Evelyn Hooker, who undertook groundbreaking research during the 1950's that challenged the prevailing assumption that homosexuality was a mental illness, and ultimately led to the removal of "homosexuality" from the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders.

Sponsored by the Center for Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, & Transgender (LGBT) Education, Outreach, and Services, the film series this year focuses on the theme of heroes and history of the LGBT movement.

Because the history of LGBT people and movements is rarely taught, it is difficult for people--LGBT and non-LGBT alike--to learn about these fascinating yet sometimes lost stories. This year’s series will seek to fill in those gaps.

All screenings are free and open to the public.
