We better still be able to walk across.

According to the project brochure put out by the City of Ithaca, pedestrian access will NOT be allowed. Traffic counts indicate approximately 12,000 cars per day (1,000 cars at peak traffic hours) will be rerouted. Figures listed by the city also state that 100 pedestrians cross that bridge at peak hours. End result: pedestrians are supposed to use the detour used by vehicular traffic. It's going to be dangerous out there - as a South Hill resident and a pedestrian, I beg people to be cautious and considerate when using alternate routes. The detour will add literally thousands of cars to residental streets and neighborhoods. Liz Smith.

Please people: be cautious and prepared. I am a South Hill resident, pedestrian and bus rider; I have no car. Drivers, please watch for pedestrians and share a little space; pedestrians, please make yourselves visible (i carry a flashlight and wear a vest) and stay alert. Can we get some support in terms of marked crossings, guards or traffic directors?
