Visiting assistant professor Paula Turkon published a book chapter entitled, "Food Preparation and Status in Mesoamerica," in the book, The Archaeology of Food and Identity, edited by Kathryn Twiss of the Center for Archaeological Investigations (Occasional Paper #34), Southern Illinois University.

The article extends archaeological explorations of social identity, which are usually focused on wealth and prestige items, to include variability in domestic activities. Because domestic tasks such as food preparation are usually women's work, this research indirectly explores the social roles of women in pre-Hispanic Mesoamerica.
