Asma Barlas, director of the Center for the Study of Culture, Race, and Ethnicity (CSCRE) and professor of politics, gave an invited talk at a conference, "Muslim Women: Between Oppression and Self-Empowerment," organized by the Friedrich Ebert Foundation in Cologne, Germany, on March 9. She also made a presentation March 14 on "Islam, Gender, and the War on Terror," at Bates College in Maine.
