Understanding interdisciplinary team dynamics and acquiring collaboration skills are critical areas for careers in the field of health and human services. Students with majors or interest areas in physical therapy, speech language pathology, audiology, occupational therapy, recreation therapy, health care management, gerontology (aging studies), sociology and psychology, should consider this unique, 1-3 credit course.

Seminar: Health Care Teams, fall 2007, MWF noon to 12:50 p.m., cross-listed as: SLPA-46001-01, TRLS (RLS)-46001-01, PTBS-46001-01, or OTBS-46001-01.

Students will have the opportunity to learn and apply team management skills, participate in interactive classroom exercises and interdisciplinary group projects, meet with guest speakers, and engage in team observations. Students register for the appropriate course for their major and earn the variable credit by attending the class in blocks, as follows:

One credit: August 29 – October 1, 2007
Introduction to disciplines and their respective roles on interdisciplinary teams.

Two credits: August 29 – November 5, 2007
Models of collaboration and the management of interdisciplinary teams.

Three credits: August 29- December 14, 2007
Application of teaming principles including interdisciplinary assessment, treatment plan development and co-treatments.
