Are you a faculty member interested in working with a dynamic and motivated group of students interested in learning more about how to live sustainably? If the answer to this question is yes, please consider serving as a faculty fellow for the Sustainably Conscious Residential Learning Community.

The Sustainably Conscious Residential Learning Community came into existence in fall 2005 as a result of a student initiated proposal. The program has been growing and expanding ever since. The program which is currently housed on a single floor in Terrace 3 (22 students) will expand next fall to fill the entirety of Terrace 2 (62 students).

The program is designed to help students achieve the following learning objectives:
*To understand the necessity of lifelong sustainable living
*To understand what is required to pursue sustainable lifestyles
*To become advocates of sustainable living and to educate the campus community about sustainable living through outreach programs
*To reduce their ecological footprint
*To understand the full environmental and social costs of their purchases, and how that relates to issues of sustainability
*To appreciate the importance of community, communication and collaboration to sustainability.
*To serve as a model program for sustainable practices at Ithaca College.

Dr. John Hopple, assistant professor in biology, has been serving as the faculty fellow for the past two years. He will be stepping down this fall in order to pursue other scholarly work. As the program is doubling in size we will be looking for two faculty fellows to work with the program starting in Fall 2007. The faculty fellow participates in the following ways

1. The faculty fellow serves as a member of the Sustainably Conscious Learning Community Coordinating Group. The group meets bi-weekly to discuss programs and issues related to the community.
2. The faculty fellow assists with planning for and attends the opening camping trip
3. The faculty fellow attends community dinners and town meetings which occur every other week.
4.The faculty fellow plans and develops a slate of 5-6 academically based sustainability programs each semester. Programs might involve taking the students to an event on or off-campus, arranging for a presenter to come to the community,, or something the faculty member presents him/herself,

Faculty Fellows must be full time faculty members and are eligible to receive a stipend of $1100 a year for their work with the community. If you are interested in this opportunity please contact Bonnie Solt Prunty, director of residential life, at bprunty@ithaca.edu. She will send you a brief application. Thanks for your consideration.
