TRANSform is Ithaca College’s innovative program to promote the use of alternate forms of transportation to improve our health and reduce greenhouse gas emissions.

Students, faculty, and staff on the Ithaca College campus are participating in the TRANSform program by committing to use alternative transportation when traveling to and from campus for five weeks out of the semester. Instead of driving to campus in single-occupant vehicles, students, faculty, and staff decided to walk, bike, or take public transit. Cars are left at home, roads are less congested, and money is saved by using less gas. The increase in exercise is beneficial to one’s health. Alternative transportation cuts down on greenhouse gas emissions and this is good for everyone!

On April 9 and 10, 2007, IC students in conjunction with Green Mountain Coffee, will be offering complementary coffee as an incentive for students, faculty, and staff to sponsor the TRANSform program, look for the table in the Campus Center. The TRANSform program allows IC students to collect sponsorships to support an important component of the IC sustainability effort. TRANSform program sponsors encourage healthy living and reduce Ithaca College’s carbon emissions. They also assist in raising money for a scholarship fund. This scholarship fund sends students on a service learning program to create and manage sustainable micro-enterprises in Ecuador.

In May, IC students will make a second trip to the Maquipucuna cloud-forest reserve, where they will work to foster the sustainable use of natural resources. This will generate revenue for the hands-on work in sustainability implemented at the reserve. The projects completed by Ithaca College students during the first trip in May 2006 are expected to generate between $45,000 and $120,000 of annual revenue for the reserve and its surrounding communities.
