The Counseling Center has resources available for faculty and staff who are supporting students who have been affected by the tragedy at Virginia Tech.

The Counseling Center staff is very saddened at the tragic shootings at Virginia Tech. We are aware that these events can impact our community in many ways. Some students, staff, or faculty can be re-traumatized and a variety of mental health symptoms could be triggered. It is important to reach out to others at this time and nurture connections in order to reduce stress.

The Counseling Center provides campus support and other resources to students experiencing the range of emotions when confronted with traumatic events and overwhelming stress. We are also a resource for staff and faculty who may need to support students who have been affected by this tragedy. We have brochures and information about how to help students in distress, as well as ways to speak about such an event in a classroom setting.

Please contact us at 274-3136 or email counseling@ithaca.edu if you would like a copy of these documents.

The Counseling Center is located in the lower level of the Hammond Health Building. You can reach us at 274-3136 during business hours. After 5pm, a counselor is on call for emergencies. Please call the Health Center (274-3177) or the Office of Public Safety (274-3333) to reach the Counselor On Call.

Please let us know if we can assist in other ways.
