Lauren O'Connell, associate professor of art history, presented a paper in February entitled, "Voillet-le-duc and Solntsev: Preserving Patrimony in France and Russia" at a Solntsev symposium sponsored by the New York Public Library and the Harriman Insititute.

Also, at the annual meeting of the Society of Architectural Historians in Pittsburgh in April, she delivered a paper entitled "Affirming Empire in the Old 'New Russia': Layered Encounters in Demidov's 'Voyage en Russie meridionale.'" Both papers explore the architectural book as a vehicle for cross-cultural representation.
