All students in Cory Young's Crisis Management class (fall 2006) conducted original research on text messaging during Hurricane Katrina. Their research was written up as a manuscript and entered in the Lambda Pi Eta Mock Communication Convention. The students won the award for top paper.

Lambda Pi Eta is an honors society for communication studies through the National Communication Association. The goal of the society is to engage students intellectually in the professional practice of sharing their research and ideas.

The students also submitted their manuscript to the Southern Communication Journal. We are awaiting the editors' and reviewers' comments to date.
