Long distance telephone service, provided by STC Services, will no longer be available to students living in residence halls starting with the Fall 2007 semester.
This decision was made by STC Services and Information Technology Services based on low student participation (only 24 students used the service in the month of October), and the cost of maintaining equipment designed for a much higher volume of calls. Traditional student telephone usage, via lines provided by the College in each residence hall room, has been in steady decline over the past few years given the popularity of wireless cell phones today.
Local telephone service, provided by Verizon, will still be available in all residence hall rooms. Local telephone service provides access to the local calling area as well as toll-free numbers (800, 888, etc.), which can be used to access alternative long distance service including calling card vendors.
