On Thursday, May 10, the Delta chapter of Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia -- a national all-male music fraternity -- presented retired IC faculty member Angus Godwin with the Orpheus Award. The Orpheus Award is the highest honor that the chapter can bestow upon a member of the community who has significantly contributed to the cause of music in America.

Godwin exemplified the criteria of this award by serving on the Ithaca College voice faculty for over 35 years. Performing at least once a year in Ithaca College recitals, Godwin has sung with other faculty members such as Steve Brown, head of the jazz department, and Gordon Stout, professor of percussion.

Aside from teaching, Professor Godwin has toured under Columbia Artists Management, performing over 300 recitals in the United States and Canada, including appearances on the Today show and with the Juilliard Opera Theater.

During his years at Ithaca College, Professor Godwin served as the faculty adviser to the Delta chapter of Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia, the group's oldest active chapter. The brothers were extremely proud and excited to award the fraternity’s highest honor to such a deserving man at a reception honoring his impressive teaching and performing career and his service to the Delta chapter.
