Ithaca College is pleased to be welcoming His Holiness the Dalai Lama to campus on Wednesday, October 10. While tickets for the general public have already sold out, a limited number of seats for his 2:00 p.m. presentation in Ben Light Gymnasium have been reserved for members of the Ithaca College community.

These tickets will go on sale at 9:00 a.m. on Wednesday, August 15. The tickets, which cost $20 each, will be available online only, at www.namgyaltickets.com. Ithaca College faculty, staff and students who wish to purchase tickets will need to enter their e-mail username and password; there is a limit of two tickets per person.

The Dalai Lama’s presentation, “Eight Verses on Training the Mind,” will also be broadcast to several locations on campus for those unable to attend his talk in person. His two-day visit to the area is sponsored by Ithaca’s Namgyal Monastery Institute of Buddhist Studies, which is the North American seat of the Dalai Lama’s personal monastery. He will also be speaking at Cornell University on “A Human Approach to World Peace” and conducting an interfaith dialogue at the State Theatre. Tickets for the general public for those events have also sold out.

For more information on the Dalai Lama and the Namgyal Monastery, visit www.namgyal.org.

I have been trying to buy tickets since 8:58. Are they sold out? If they are sold
out, could someone please post something on Intercom or send an email alert?
That way employees will give up trying to purchase, and wasting a lunch hour or
two!

Thank you.

I have been attempting to purchase tickets since 9:00 a.m. today, August 15th. The site has shown the IC event sold out continously and has not allow me to purchase tickets. I am signed in as an IC employee/student. How could the tickets for the IC community be already sold out when they didn't go on sale until 9:00 a.m. today?

Opened early?! How early? Now how does that seem fair? Who knew they were
going to open early and bought up all the tickets?
I logged on at 8:20 and it already showed "sold-out". I did the right thing by
waiting until closer to 9:00 before I checked it again. It never showed anything
but sold out.
Seems like false advertising and very unfair to those who tried to use the system
as instructed.

Having had a 9am meeting, I waited until after to try and order tickets. Now I find out I should have ordered early?

I feel cheated out of a great opportunity.

As many are aware, tickets for the Dalia Lama event on 10/10 are now sold out as of 9:02am this morning!! Apparently tickets sold within 90 seconds. 300 tickets were placed on reserve for faculty, staff, and students of IC only and there was a limit of 2 per person. The ticket sales were conducted on-line via University Tickets and they have confirmed that there were no security issues and that tickets went on sale at 9am and not earlier than this. FYI, this was the second availability for tickets to be purchased (first round was in May when the event was first announced). We worked with the Namgyal Monestary (sponsors of the event) to hold extra tickets for IC until August so that our community, primarily new, first year students, would have an opportunity to obtain tickets. It is also important to note that we are the host venue but this event is open to the general public and the event coordinator is the Namgyal Monestary. There will be remote viewing locations announced shortly that interested members of the IC Community can enjoy the event for free on large scree projection (Emerson Suites, Ford Hall).

I logged on as a registered user at 9:00 AM and was informed that the event
was sold out. I then emailed to enquire as to whether this was actually the
case. I was informed that the event was sold out and given no further
explanation. I would like to think that I simply got caught in a rush of orders
and came up at the back of the queue. If that is the case, well...fine. An
explanation, though, that the system had been overwhealmed would have
gone a long way towards relieving any suspicion that waiting until the
specified time for ordering had been a foolish mistake. I can also imagine
that some simple error, technical or human, might have released the tickets
in advance of 9:00. If such a mistake was made then the mistake should have
been acknowledged. I know I would have accepted that explanation, even if it
left me a little grumpy. If, however, tickets to the IC community were sold
before 9:00 there has been a violation of trust. If a decision was made
to sell tickets before 9:00, obviously the whole IC community should have
been informed - that is simple fairness. It also seems that anyone who
knowingly purchased tickets well in advance of the specified time (please
note the preceding modifiers) might want to consider the oddness of their
having "cut the line" to a talk on mindfullness.

Again, I do hope the cause of this situation was either the sheer volume of
requests or an error.

Having tried to purchase tickets in May only to find that they were sold-out for that purchase date to the general public, I planned carefully to purchase tickets on Aug. 15th as soon as they were available to the IC community. I logged on prior to 9:00 a.m. to be ready and checked the availability of tickets as early as 8:00 a.m. Neither then nor later, including exactly at 9:00 a.m., were tickets ever available to me as an IC employee. I would like to hear from someone who purchased tickets how they managed.

I am extremely disappointed that the majority of the students, the heart and soul of Ithaca College, will not be allowed to hear the Dalai Lama speak in person. The ticket sales for this event were not a positive way to start off the school year at IC, a communtity built on trust and morality.

I'm so glad I get to pay $41,000/year to attend IC, but get virtually cheated out of the opportunity to see such a significant guest.

Why does the general public get the upperhand here? Why cant the students have first access, instead of "reserve seats"? Even if that isnt the case, I dont ever recall getting an alert back in May that he was coming here. Why couldn't it be students only? I know that sounds odd, but isnt that the advantage of paying a zillion dollars to come here?

The folks in the general public aren't the ones putting themselves into decades and decades of debt. I am very discouraged that it appears the ITHACA COLLEGE gym will be mostly filled with people who DON'T ATTEND.

Will this be broad casted on ICTV? If not this is ridiculous.
