Anthropologist Joel Savishinsky's article, "Lighting the Match: Using Haiku to Teach About Aging," was published in Gerontology and Geriatrics Education (volume 27, number 4, 2007).

Professor Savishinsky's article describes how students in his Aging and Culture class used haiku, a rhythmic form of Japanese poetry, to explore their own insights, emotions, and ethical values about aging, power and institutionalizaton.

Joel Savishinsky is Charles A. Dana Professor in Social Sciences, Department of Anthropology and the Gerontology Institute at Ithaca College.
