Asma Barlas, professor of politics and director of Center for the Study of Culture, Race, and Ethnicity, presented a paper, "Provincializing Feminism as a Master Narrative," at a workshop on Islamic feminism, held August 31 in Finland.

The event was funded by the Tampere Research Institute and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Finland.

Barlas also gave a lecture August 24 on her work on the Qur'an at Southern Illinois University Carbondale at the invitation of the Department of Women's Studies as well as the Dayemi Tariqat, a group of Sufi Muslims in Carbondale.
