On September 26, IC students went heads up with some of the world's best debaters.

Ithaca College students Galen Danskin and Naomy Gmyrek participated in a public debate against the British National Debate Team. The British team will be touring the United States for the next three months and Ithaca was the first stop on the tour. The British team consisted of two debaters. Alex Just, a senior at Oxford University and former president of the Oxford Union, has received numerous awards at both national and international tournaments. Alistair Cormack, a recent graduate of Durham University, has also enjoyed tremendous success at both the national and international level.

The Ithaca College students were justifiably intimidated going into the debate, but after it was over, they found that the preparation they had made paid off. Galen, a first-year English major, and Naomy, a second-year prelaw student debated the British over the proposition: "Resolved that the United States should sign up to the treaty establishing an International Criminal Court."

Naomy and Galen travel to their first intercollegiate tournament at Lafayette College on the weekend of October 6.
