The Office of Academic Support Services for Students with Disabilities has been receiving a number of calls from faculty with questions regarding test accommodations for students who have it listed on their academic adjustment plan.

The student -- not the faculty member -- is responsible for calling the office to schedule exams.

We require a minimum of three days' notice in order to obtain a copy of the exam, locate a test room, find a proctor and arrange for other mandated services such as a computer or reader. The three-day rule is also a courtesy to the faculty member, so that there is sufficient time to bring the test to our office in Smiddy Hall before the exam date.

If you don't receive a call from Academic Support Services requesting a test, please do not assume the student is taking the test with the office. It's not unusual for a student to elect to take the exam in the classroom without accommodations.

Occasionally, a student will elect to take a test in class and will run out of time. Faculty may elect to give them more time. However, they are under no obligation to do so without prior arrangement.

When a student calls less than three days before the exam and we have test room space, we make every attempt to seat the student if the professor is willing and able to bring the test to the office on short notice. However, it's up to the student to make arrangements with the faculty to have the exam delivered to the office.
