The campus community is reminded that His Holiness the Dalai Lama will visit Ithaca College on Wednesday, October 10, to deliver "Eight Verses on Training the Mind" from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. in Ben Light Gymnasium. The visit will cause some disruptions in normal travel and parking patterns.
For security purposes, there will be temporary road closures on and around campus to accommodate the arrival and departure of the Dalai Lama's motorcade. The upper portion of F lot will be closed the entire day.
Because the event will draw a large number of off-campus visitors, traffic will be heavy throughout the South Hill area beginning Wednesday morning. Those attending from off campus are being asked to use public transportation via TCAT bus. Cars will be directed to park at the South Hill Business Campus, where a shuttle bus will be provided.
Members of the campus community who were unable to purchase tickets for the Dalai Lama's talk can watch the live broadcast beginning at 1:00 p.m. on large-screen televisions that will be set up in the Emerson Suites and in Ford Hall. Additionally, ICTV will broadcast the presentation on Time Warner Cable channel 16 in the Ithaca area, and it will be available to view live on the Internet at https://www.ithaca.edu/bridgingworlds/webcast.
Doors to Ben Light Gymnasium will open at noon, and ticket holders should plan to arrive as early as possible in order to allow ample time for security check-in. Doors will close at 1:45 p.m.; anyone arriving after doors have closed will not be admitted. Once admitted, there will be no re-entry.
Attendees should note that no cell phones, backpacks, large bags, umbrellas, cameras, recording devices, electronic devices of any kind, food, or beverages will be allowed into the venues. All persons are subject to screening via metal detectors and all bags are subject to search.
