The Ithaca College Office of Public Safety has identified the person responsible for committing a burglary in the East Tower residence hall reported on September 22, 2007. This incident had been publicized in a Public Safety Alert issued the following day.

On October 10, 2007, the Office of Public Safety filed criminal charges against Carl Tate, 28, of Newfield, for burglary in the second degree, a Class C felony; and grand larceny in the fourth degree, a Class E felony. He may face additional criminal counts for the unauthorized use of the victim's credit/debit card, which occurred in the City of Ithaca. Tate, who is not a member of the Ithaca College community, has been restricted from campus.

The arrest was the result of a joint investigation by the City of Ithaca Police Department (IPD) and the Office of Public Safety. Tate has also been criminally charged by IPD for an unrelated burglary.

The Office of Public Safety provides this update to keep our community informed about crime on campus. Students are reminded to keep their room doors locked at all times and to not provide access to unknown non-residents for their own safety.
