Professor and psychology department chair Barney Beins coordinated and participated in symposia on mentoring and on teaching introductory psychology. The presentations took place at the American Psychological Association (APA) convention in San Francisco in August.

One symposium was "Using Stories from Our Personal Lives To Teach Psychological Theories and Concepts." It involved presentations with colleagues from Randolph College, Georgia Southern University, Augustana College, and Southern Oregon University.

The second symposium, "Mentoring Close To Home: Implications for General Principles of Mentoring," involved three parent-child pairs in which professional mentoring occurred. The symposium involved participants from Rutgers, Indiana University-Purdue University Indianapolis, Idaho State University, Arkansas State University, and Ouachita Baptist University.
