Cynthia Scheibe, associate professor of psychology, presented a session October 19 at the 13th Northeast Conference for Teachers of Psychology, held at Western Connecticut State University in Danbury, Connecticut. The session was titled, "Critical Thinking and the Teaching of Psychology in a Digital Media Age."

It explored ways to integrate media literacy into the teaching of psychology, including critical thinking about media messages, judging credibility of websites, interpreting research on media effects, and using media production as an effective part of student assessment.

Topics included: developmental differences in media use, comprehension and effects of media messages; attitudes and stereotyping; critical thinking and selective perception; and popular news coverage of psychological research.
