The multimedia performance, Quatro Estaciones Portenas (The Four Seasons of Buenos Aires 1964-1970, by Astor Piazzolla) -- featuring two pianists, tango dancers, and multiple screen projections -- was performed at the Austin City Limits studio in Austin, Texas, on October 19, 2007.

The project is a collaborative research project between the Finger Lakes Environmental Film Festival (FLEFF) and the Human Studies Film Archives (HSFA) of the Smithsonian Institution.

Originally commissioned for FLEFF in 2006, the project features IC faculty Jairo Geronymo and Jeffery Meyer, assistant professors of music performance (piano); Tom Nicholson, assistant professor of television and radio and also affiliated with DIIS (director and video mixer); Patricia Zimmermann, professor of cinema, photography, and media arts and also affiliated with DIIS (researcher, writer, producer); and Tom Shevory, professor of politics and also affiliated with DIIS (studio liaison).

Pamela Wintle, senior archivist at HSFA and an IC alumna, served as research consultant. Texas- and Argentina-based tango dancers Monica Caivano and Gustavo Simplis were also part of the performance ensemble.

Exploring avant-garde tango, Quatro Estaciones Portenas was one of three featured evening screenings and performances at the conference of the National Alliance for Media Arts and Culture, the major professional organization for museums, arts funders, festivals, media arts centers, and distributors in the United States.

Support for this performance was generously provided by the Division of Interdisciplinary and International Studies, School of Music, Roy H. Park School of Communications, Office of the Provost, Gibson Music Company, KLRU-TV, Barefoot Wine, National Alliance for Media Arts and Culture, Experimental Television Center, New York State Council on the Arts, and Austin School of Film.
