Provost Kathleen Rountree announced today that Dianne Lynch, dean of the Roy H. Park School of Communications, will remain at Ithaca College. Lynch had earlier said that she would accept an offer from the University of California, Berkeley, to become dean of its Graduate School of Journalism in January. She informed officials at Berkeley today that she would instead remain at Ithaca College.

"In my conversations with President Williams, with Provost Rountree, and with many of my friends and colleagues, it became clear to me that Ithaca College is the best place for me and for my family," said Lynch. "This is such an exciting time here, and I am delighted to be a part of it."

Rountree also expressed delight with Lynch's decision to stay. "I am confident that Dianne's energy, big ideas, and commitment to our students will continue to make a positive and important difference."

Lynch cited several initiatives in the Park School that she is looking forward to working with faculty and students on in the coming year:
• Development of an immersive media and gaming degree program.
• Launch of the Center for Independent Media under the direction of the new endowed chair in independent media.
• Launch of new junior Park Scholar awards.

Lynch has served as dean of the Roy H. Park School of Communications since 2004.

"I appreciate the patience that the faculty and administration at both Ithaca and Berkeley have shown as I considered this opportunity," said Lynch. "Ultimately, I determined that remaining with the Park School provides the greatest opportunity for continued personal and professional growth and accomplishment."
