On the weekend of November 9-11, Ithaca College's Residence Hall Association hosted the NEACURH (Northeast Affiliation of College and University Residence Halls) regional conference.
The theme of the conference, Marty's G.O.R.G.E.S. (Getting Our Region Geared toward Environmental Sustainability) Gathering, allowed student delegates from around the region to focus on issues of sustainability, leadership, and programming as they pertain to residence hall associations. This conference was NEACURH's largest ever, with a record 350 students, advisers, and special guests.
Ithaca College's host committee was made up of 11 students and two staff advisers: Brianne Lewis, Michael Schimley, Patrick Rossiter, Sara Cleary, Rachel Bertram, Laura Benedict, Katie Parrotte, Tristan Fowler, Cole Lechleiter, Robert Deutschmann, Melanie Serrou, and advisers Tiffani Ziemann and Darese Doskal-Scaffido from the Office of Residential Life and Judicial Affairs.
In addition, eight IC RHA members were in attendance as delegates: Gamy Wong, Joni Sweet, Juan Duchimaza, Kristen Essex, Tori Nasoff, Jillian Trottier, Jacqueline Baum, and Renee Addington. The delegation was led by RHA national communications coordinators Katie Parrotte and Dennis Akey, and RHA co-adviser Andrew Kosinuk.
At the closing banquet, the conference planning committee was recognized for their work throughout the past year. Brianne Lewis was awarded a silver pin, NEACURH's highest award for outstanding service. Tiffani Ziemann and Darese Doskal-Scaffido were recognized as outstanding advisers in the region. Mark Darling, of Facilities Services, gave the keynote address on sustainability issues.
Marty's G.O.R.G.E.S. Gathering was a very successful weekend with many excellent ideas and important issues discussed among regional schools. Congratulations to the conference planning committee and to the Ithaca College delegation for their outstanding efforts.
