Submitted on behalf of Kathleen Rountree, provost and vice president of academic affairs.

In recent weeks, President Williams and I have discussed at length the topic of institutional planning, exploring several possible strategies that will help Ithaca College focus on moving forward on important goals even as we undergo a period of transition in senior leadership.

Therefore, I am charging the Planning and Priorities Committee (PPC) to articulate a "Bridge Plan" for 2008-10. This plan will be a distillation of goals/initiatives from the current plan that deserve or warrant attention, as well as the critical initiatives emanating from the Middle States self-study process and team visit.

The purpose of the "Bridge Plan" is to provide focus for institutional decision making and resource allocation, while a new president decides how and when to engage in the next comprehensive, long-range planning activity. I expect that we will complete the Bridge Plan by the end of spring semester, in time to submit it to President Williams for her review and approval.

Diane Gayeski, professor of strategic communication and associate dean in the Park School of Communications, will facilitate the development of the Bridge Plan. She will be invaluable in assisting us in this endeavor, as her focus of teaching and research is organizational communication, learning, and strategy. Since 1979 she has taught undergraduate and graduate courses in this area at the College, and has also maintained an active consulting practice, with clients such as the U.S. Centers for Medicare and Medicaid, the North Suburban (Chicago) Library System, Fiat, Abbott Diagnostics, Cornell School of Industrial and Labor Relations, Guthrie Healthcare System, and the Ontario Gaming and Lottery Corporation.

The Planning and Priorities Committee members are Kathleen Rountree (chair), Laurie Arliss, Susan Avery, Barb Belyea, Aaron Bloom, Nancy Brcak, Traevena Byrd, Mark Coldren, Sally Dietz, Marsha Eger, Scott Erickson, Scott Hamula, Carole Hughes, Joshua Keniston, Daniel Mahoney, Michael McGreevey, Bonnie Prunty, Rory Rothman, and Greg Woodward. I expect that the committee will be soliciting input from other campus groups as their work proceeds.

On behalf of President Williams and myself, I want to thank all members of the Planning and Priorities Committee -- past and present -- for their dedicated work on this important initiative.
