The School of Humanities and Sciences has set spring deadlines for proposals to its two competitive award programs to enhance student learning and achievement, the H&S Educational Grant Initiative and the Emerson Humanities Collaboration Awards.

The H&S Educational Grant Initiative deadline for spring, summer, and early fall 2008 projects is February 22. Students and faculty in H&S are eligible to apply for these awards to support course-based activities that enhance teaching and learning, student/faculty collaborations in scholarly projects, and other student projects, including participation in conferences or festivals. Award amounts range from $150 up to a maximum of $1,000.

The Emerson Humanities Collaboration Award Program deadline for summer 2008, fall 2008, and spring 2009 projects is March 20. Meritorious H&S students who are eligible for financial aid can apply for these awards to work directly with a member of the Humanities faculty on a collaborative scholarly project. Both student applicants and their faculty mentors must submit materials as part of the proposal process. The Award offers students a stipend of up to $3,000 during the summer, and $1,500 during the semester, to enable recipients to devote time and attention to the work required to succeed in such scholarly projects.

Questions about eligibility, specific projects, or application procedures can be addressed to Stacia Zabusky, assistant dean, School of Humanities and Sciences (274-3102, szabusky@ithaca.edu). More information, including guidelines, lists of previous award recipients, and application forms can be found at www.ithaca.edu/hs/resources/fundingopps/. Completed proposals should be submitted to the H&S dean's office, 201 Muller.
