Public Safety Alert

Contributed by David Maley on 02/03/08

On Sunday, February 3, a female student reported to the Ithaca College Office of Public Safety that she had been raped by an unknown male in Emerson Hall.

According to the victim, she returned to her room at about 1:30 a.m. and found an unknown male inside the room. The male subject sexually assaulted the female and then departed the room. There was no sign of forced entry to the room.

The victim described the subject as a Hispanic male, 5' 10", 170 pounds, with a thin build and no facial hair. He was last seen wearing loose denim jeans, a black hoodie-type shirt with a white T-shirt underneath, a red fitted hat with a straight brim, and Timberland-type boots.

Anyone with information is encouraged to call the Office of Public Safety at 607-274-3333, or leave an anonymous tip at 607-274-1060.

The Ithaca College Office of Public Safety encourages everyone to lock their room doors and to report suspicious persons.

To aid in the prevention of crime and to keep the campus community informed about safety and security issues on an ongoing basis, an institution must alert the campus community of certain crimes in a manner that is timely and will aid in the prevention of similar crimes.

As required by the Jeanne Clery Disclosure of Campus Security Policy and Campus Crime Statistics Act [20 USC 1092 (f)], Crime Awareness and Campus Security Act of 1990 and subsequent amendments, the crimes reported that mandate a "timely warning notice" are in the categories of aggravated assault, arson, burglary, murder and non-negligent homicide, robbery, sexual offenses (forcible and non-forcible), and motor vehicle theft.

The Office of Public Safety monitors the crime reports it receives from the campus community and local police agencies and issues public safety alerts to the campus community on any incidents that are considered to be a serious or continuing threat to students and employees.

This girl deserves a lot of credit for taking action. I can not imagine how difficult that must have been to report. I am proud of her and when this low-life, dirty, ass-hole gets caught it will be because of her courageous actions. She is saving other women the pain and agony that she had to endure and that makes her a hero. Take care of yourself, my thoughts and prayers are with you.
