Submitted on behalf of Tanya R. Saunders, assistant provost and dean, interdisciplinary and international studies.

On behalf of President Peggy R. Williams, I am pleased to announce the First-Year Reading (FYR) selection for the 2008-09 academic year.

Having considered all of the worthy texts recommended by the FYR selection committee, President Williams has chosen Persepolis by Marjane Satrapi.

An autobiographical graphic novel, Persepolis is written from the perspective of a child trying to understand the complexities of the revolution in Iran. Persepolis offers the Ithaca College incoming class the opportunity to consider the diversity of thought on justice, self-determination, and class difference in a country that is increasingly a topic of international debate.

The Ithaca College Library will make available online reference materials on Iran, the revolution, and Persepolis.
