Peter Silberman, assistant professor of music theory, has had an article published in the Horn Call, the journal of the International Horn Society.

Silberman's article, "Brahms's Use of the Hand Horn in the Trio, Op. 40," investigates how the nineteenth-century composer Johannes Brahms took advantage of differences in tone color available on the hand horn, the ancestor of today's French horn. The article shows that distinctions between two different types of sounds influenced many of Brahms's compositional choices.
