Microsoft Office 2007 is now available as a free upgrade for installation on college-owned Windows computers.

Office 2007 is a major new release with a different interface and many new features. To help you with this upgrade:

Faculty and staff can now install the new version themselves but we do recommend that all users in a particular area or department upgrade at the same time. Still nervous? Stop by the ITS Booth during Ed Tech Day to see the new software.

Office 2007 will be installed in labs and eClassrooms during summer 2008. Faculty should plan to upgrade before the fall semester to allow time to become comfortable with the new interface and features.

If you don't upgrade yet, make sure the Compatibility Pack is installed on your computer.

Please visit our Microsoft Office 2007 Support page for detailed upgrade information.

Those of us with Macs are wondering how we're going to be able to view files
created by our colleagues with Windows 2007. There is no compatibility pack
for Macs, as IT knows. Without a plan in place it seems premature for the
college to switch to the new product.

The Office 2007 installer provided by ITS is pre-configured to save files in the earlier Office format, thus allowing continued compatibility between Office 2004 (Macs) and Office 2003 (Windows). Once a significant percentage of computers are converted to the new versions (Office 2007 for Windows and Office 2008 for Macs), which is expected to happen by late 2008, ITS will recommend that users begin saving Office files in the new file format.
