From March 7 through 9, five faculty members in the Department of Anthropology (Jack Rossen, Brooke Hansen, Paula Turkon, Dave Turkon, and Lisa Paciulli) accompanied 19 students to the Northeastern Anthropological Association's annual meeting at the University of Massachusetts, Amherst.

Eighteen of the students presented papers on a wide range of topics, from Cayuga archaeology, the Lost Boys of Sudan, integrating alternative medicine into free clinics, and primatology, to gender paradoxes and political movements in South Asia.

Two of the sessions were organized and facilitated by faculty members. Many of the students were from the Anthropology Capstone class, where professional presentations are required as part of the skill-building component of the course.

The trip was funded by the Educational Grant Initiative, the Diversity Awareness Committee, the provost's office and the anthropology department's Fitchen Fund. A bulletin board of the trip with pictures and the conference materials can be found in the first floor hallway of the Gannett Center.
