IC Theatre stages Shakespeare's romantic comedy with performances beginning Tuesday, April 15.
Performances of A Midsummer Night's Dream will be held at 8:00 p.m. on April 15, 17, 18, 19, 22, 23, 24, 25, and 26, with a 2:00 p.m. matinee on Sunday, April 20, and Saturday, April 26. All performances will be held in the Clark Theatre at Dillingham Center.
Ticket prices range from $4.50 to $10.00 and can be purchased at the Ithaca College Theatre ticket office in Dillingham Center and at the Clinton House Ticket Center. A Midsummer Night's Dream revolves around the comedic adventure of four young lovers and a group of actors as they encounter the "fairies" of the moonlit forest. Director Norm Johnson, associate professor of theater arts, interprets this classic comedy as a "fairy tale for adults."
Inspired by gypsy youth bands Beirut and Gogol Bordello, Johnson places Midsummer in a fictional world where actors "play tubas and accordions, invent new songs and sing them, and produce a lifelike donkey in order to bring a fantastic vision to life." Puck and Bottom, love potions, and the forest's magic interweave with this vision, blending the contemporary and the traditional.
Under Johnson's direction, A Midsummer Night's Dream will feature an all-student design team, including Sarah Watson (scenic designer), Katie Delaney (costume designer), Sandra Podolsky (lighting designer), and Jillian Marie Walker (sound designer). Joshua Rudbart is the technical director, and Britney Smallwood is the stage manager.
