Earth Day Celebration

On Tuesday, April 22, Ithaca Dining Services will celebrate Earth Day with special vegetarian entrees in all dining halls during lunch.

Terraces will feature grilled portabella sandwiches and mac and cheese. Campus Center will feature eggplant marinara hoagies and vegetable paella. Towers will feature hummus salad, baba ghanoush, tomatoes, cucumber and feta cheese, served with pita bread, pork spiedies, and falafels.

In addition, Towers Dining Hall will be featuring a "Trayless Tuesday" event. REMP, ICES, and Guayaki will have displays available as well.

Earth Day Fun Facts

• The first Earth Day was celebrated on April 22, 1970.
• Earth Day Network estimates that 500 million people from 4,500 organizations in 180 countries will participate in Earth Day events during the month of April.
• Earth Day is big with schools. On many school calendars, it is the third most activity-inspiring holiday, after Christmas and Halloween.

How long it takes garbage to break down:
• Plastics take 500 years
• Aluminum cans take 500 years
• Organic materials take 6 months
• Cotton, rags and paper take 6 months
