The sociology department presents award-winning author and political organizer Ewuare X. Osayande. His presentation and discussion, "Manufacturing Hip-Hop Culture: Racism, Sexism, and America," will address the brutal masculinity that hip-hop mimics and markets to the world.

Date: Wednesday, April 30
Time: 7:00-9:00 p.m.
Location: Klingenstein Lounge, Campus Center

Covering the major controversies in hip-hop for the past several years, Osayande will dissect the lives and lyrics of such recording artists as Jay-Z, 50 Cent, Kanye West, Eminem, Dr. Dre, Snoop Dogg, Ludacris, Nelly, the Ying Yang Twins, OutKast, Beanie Sigel, Busta Rhymes, Ma$e, Dead Prez, Kirk Franklin, and many more.

His presentation will target the exact location where racism, sexism, and capitalism work together to distort and disparage the image of black women. The net result, he argues, is a systemic attack on the integrity of black life and culture.

This event is free and open to the public.
