Organized by assistant professor of composition Sally Lamb, School of Music composers have been participating in a “Composer in the Schools” program at Dryden Elementary Schools. Two separate projects are currently underway.

Four IC composition students (Roy Magnuson, David Fleszar, Zachary Klein and Thomas Murphy) have been commissioned to write a short vocal piece for the four second-grade classes. Each of the classes wrote a poem together based on one of the four seasons. The composers are visiting the school three times to write, teach and perform the song, along with support from Lamb and Dryden music teacher Sandra Duncan.

In addition, IC composition students Matt, Podd, Laura Intravia, Dan Brownell and Lena Weinstein, along with performers Josh Oxford and Robert Yaple presented their compositions at DES on Friday, May 2. Dryden students will gain insight and learn basic concepts about the art of musical composition in a 45-minute presentation.
