Asma Barlas, program director at the Center for the Study of Culture, Race, and Ethnicity, gave the first Spinoza Lecture at the University of Amsterdam on May 8. The talk was entitled, "Believing Women in Islam: Between Secular and Religious Politics and Theology."

Professor Barlas is the Spinoza Chair at the University of Amsterdam from April to June 2008.
