Asma Barlas, director of the Center for the Study of Culture, Race, and Ethnicity (CSCRE), presented her second Spinoza lecture, "Would Spinoza Understand Me? Europe, Islam, and the Mirror of Difference," on June 5 at the University of Amsterdam.

On June 13, she took part in a debate with Tariq Ramadan at the University of Rotterdam and, on June 23, she gave the commemorative lecture on the 40th anniversary of the founding of the Islamic community in Lisbon. The president of Portugal, Dr. Anibal Cavaco Silva, was the chief guest at that event.
