The Health Promotion Committee invites Ithaca College students to develop a public service announcement for the Ithaca College community in honor of National Collegiate Alcohol Awareness (NCAAW) week, which takes place September 21-26, 2008.

Public Service Announcement Contest
Sponsored by the Health Promotion Committee
Rules and Guidelines

The theme for the 2008 NCAA week is "Have Fun ... Stay Safe!"

All entries should represent safe and legal uses of alcohol and should clearly and creatively represent the theme.

Eligibility

All students are eligible to submit an entry. Students may only submit one entry per category (for a total of two entries). The two categories are radio or television.

Judging Criteria

Entries will be judged in one of two categories: PSAs for radio or PSAs for television. Entries must be exactly 30 or 60 seconds in length. Submissions not meeting the time requirement will not be reviewed.
Entries will be judged on the following criteria:

  • Creativity
  • Adherence to theme
  • Clarity of message
  • Public Appeal

Entries must be in good taste. Entries deemed vulgar or inappropriate for the general audience will be disqualified. The judging committee's decision concerning this standard is final.

Entries must meet format requirements as described below.

Format Requirements

Radio

  • Must be of good audio quality
  • 30 or 60 seconds exactly
  • Preferred submission type: WAV file or CD

Television-

  • 30 or 60 seconds exactly
  • Provide slate information: title and type (e.g. PSA); length, and production information (including names)
  • Countdown into actual PSA
  • Submitted on DVD or DV-Tape

Entries will be screened by judges from the campus community. The top 10 entries in each category will be posted online to be voted on by the Ithaca College community. The top 20 entries will be screened on September 23 at 7:00 p.m. in Park Auditorium. Winners will be announced at this event.

(Editor's note: A winner was selected from a small pool of initial entries, so the September 23 event will not take place. For more information, see the September 19 Intercom story.)

How to Submit

Submissions must be received by contest coordinators no later than 5:00 p.m. on September 10. Submissions should be sent via e-mail to Tiffani Ziemann at tziemann@ithaca.edu or delivered to her office at 2102 West Tower. All submissions must include the submission title; names and e-mail addresses of all participants; and the name, phone number, and e-mail address of the coordinating participant. All contact with the group will be done through the coordinating participant.

Prizes will be awarded to the first-place entry in each category. Winners can select from the following prize list:

  • Flip camera
  • Equivalent dollar amount (approximately $150) of Best Buy gift cards
  • Equivalent dollar amount (approximately $150) of iTunes gift cards
