The first Sustainability Café of the fall 2008 series will focus on "Interdisciplinary Approaches to Lake Health Assessment: The Cayuga Watershed Experience." This café event, being held in conjunction with the Environmental Seminar, will be held on Monday, September 15, at 4:00 p.m. in the Center for Natural Sciences, room 119.

Dan Carrión '08, program assistant with the Cayuga Watershed Watch, will discuss the development of a comprehensive assessment of the health of Cayuga Lake, including characterization of the impacts of climate, vegetation, wildlife, and varieties of land use upon the Cayuga Lake watershed.

Dan Carrión joined the Cayuga Watershed Watch shortly after graduating from the environmental studies program at Ithaca. Dan was very active as a student, serving as presiding officer with Students for Sustainability; as cofounder of Students for Economic Equality; and as copresident with Students for Fair Trade. Dan also won numerous awards for his outstanding academic and volunteer accomplishments.

"Teachable edibles" -- seasonal, organic, and/or local foods -- for the fall 2008 Sustainability Café series are being supported by Ithaca College Dining Services. Please bring your reusable mug and fill up at the drinking fountain or provide your beverage of choice.

All Sustainability Café events are free and open to the public.
