Cortland Trumpeter to Perform

Contributed by Erik Kibelsbeck on 09/11/08

Ralph Dudgeon, a member of the faculty at SUNY Cortland, will present a free recital at Ithaca College on Monday, September 15, at 7:00 p.m. in the Hockett Family Recital Hall. William Cowdery will be the collaborative pianist.

The program includes Libby Larson’s "Fanfare for the Women" for solo trumpet, music of Leonard Bernstein and Ned Romem, along with music by Scott Joplin and George Gershwin, and Aaron Copland’s "Quiet City."

Dudgeon has contributed articles to the Encyclopedia of Popular Music of the World, New Grove Dictionary of Music and Musicians (sixth and seventh editions), the New Grove Dictionary of Musical Instruments, the New Grove Dictionary of American Music, the American Musical Instrument Society Journal, the International Trumpet Guild Journal, Ovation, and the Historic Brass Society Journal. His 1993 book, The Keyed Bugle, published by Scarecrow Press, is considered the definitive research on that instrument. His debut solo album, Music for Keyed Bugle, was the first full-length recording devoted to the keyed bugle.
