An upcoming free recital at Ithaca College feature double bass professor Nicholas Walker both as performer and composer. The recital will take place on Tuesday, September 16, at 7:00 p.m. in the Hockett Family Recital Hall.

Walker’s program will feature his own "Double Bass Concerto No. 2," which is a five movement fantasy on themes from a popular 1970s American musical. Walker is keeping the exact identity of the musical a secret up till the time of the performance. He will also perform two works by Francois Rabbath and J. S. Bach’s second viola da gamba sonata. Collaborating musicians will be Jean Radice on harpsichord and Josh Oxford on piano.

Walker earned his D.M.A. in Early Music at Stony Brook University in 2004. Formerly Walker studied at the Shepherd School of Music, Rice University, where he received a B.M.A. in 1994. Walker has also apprenticed with two master mentors: for three years he toured with swing era saxophone legend Illinois Jacquet, and for the last eighteen years Walker has worked closely with the pioneering maestro of the double bass, Francois Rabbath. As a Fulbright Scholar (1994-95) he worked with Rabbath at the Nadia Boulanger Conservatoire de Paris, and has since received two diplomas from L’Institue International Francois Rabbath: one in performance and one in teaching.
