Assistant professor of music theory Peter Silberman's article, "Analyzing Tonal Embellishment in Post-tonal Music," was recently published in the anthology, Musical Currents from the Left Coast.

The anthology, edited by Jack Boss and Bruce Quaglia and published by Cambridge Scholar's Publishing, contains papers originally presented at the 2007 West Coast Conference of Music Theory and Analysis.

Silberman's article argues that harmonic embellishment, a characteristic of pre-twentieth-century music, occurs in twentieth-century music as well, and presents guidelines for use in incorporating such embellishment in analysis.
