As of January 2009, the Campus Center check-cashing service will no longer be available.

As ATMs, direct deposit, and other convenient and sustainable forms of banking have grown in popularity, use of the Campus Center check-cashing service has fallen significantly.

Please note that there are three ATMs in the Campus Center: HSBC, Tompkins Trust Company, and CFCU. In addition, CFCU has a branch on campus in the East Tower, where account holders may cash checks.

The listed financial institutions that have ATM's on campus is actually CFCU, Tompkins Trust Company, and HSBC....not M&T Bank.

I am surprised by this. I use this service several times per year and there always seems to be a line at the check cashing booth. While use of this service may have declined, it seems there is still a need for it, at least based on my experience of waiting in line.

What about moving check cashing to the Bursar's window, then? I, too, use the check service several times a year. When the ATMs are down (which happens quite a bit) the check cashing service is the only alternative. And, not everyone has or wants a bank card, which some banks charge for.

This is extremely disappointing, I used this service all the time and even relied
on it to some degree. My bank does not have an ATM on campus and all the
ATMs here have high rates for withdrawing cash from outside bank accounts.
There always seemed to be a line when I went to cash a check so I think there
was still a pretty substantial need for it. Too bad.
