Matthew Shepard was a 21-year-old male whose brutal murder in Laramie, Wyoming, in October 1998 spurred calls for stronger hate-crimes legislation and drew the public's attention to the subject of anti-gay violence.

Come show your support for anyone who has experienced a hate crime at the Matthew Shepard candlelight vigil, which will take place October 9 at 7:00 p.m. at the Free Speech Rock.

The vigil will feature special guest Randi Driscoll, who wrote the song "What Matters," which became the official benefit single for the Matthew Shepard Foundation.
