Artist's Talk: Joy Adams

Contributed by Cheryl Kramer on 09/29/08

On Thursday, October 2, at 12:15 p.m., artist Joy Adams will speak about her work currently on display in the Handwerker Gallery exhibition, True Stories and Other Lies: Joy Adams and the Evolution of Mad Sally.

Adams in her monumental depictions of Sally redefines the notion of the hero by presenting an outsider who transcends notions of gender and age. She also weaves truth and fantasy in these lushly painted canvases that are rich in tradition while simultaneously constructing contemporary narratives.

All Handwerker Gallery events are free and open to the public. To schedule a tour of the exhibition, please contact outreach coordinator Genevieve Kocienda at 607-274-7057. The gallery is open Monday, Wednesday, and Friday, 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.; Thursday, 10:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m.; and weekends from noon to 5 p.m. The gallery is closed Tuesdays.
