My name is Debby Curry and I am the new director of the Washington Semester Program. I am writing to solicit course proposals for the Washington Semester seminars for spring and fall 2009. We will offer two seminars -- in the spring and one in the fall.
We are looking for seminars that can incorporate local speakers and utilize our unique location in Washington, D.C. Faculty will have a chance to show students how to merge theory with practice on important topics. Washington is home to both national and international treasures and we are looking for short courses from any discipline that will help students to connect to these resources. The diversity, cultural, international, and intellectual spheres make Washington a delightful place for academic study.
The seminars are one credit, pass/fail short courses, designed to augment the students' experience in Washington. They are scheduled Thursday, 6:30-9:00 p.m.; Friday, 9:00 a.m.-noon and 1:00-5:00 p.m.; and Saturday, 9:00 a.m.-noon. Scheduling the seminar during the semesters is flexible and I can accommodate your needs.
Faculty is compensated for one credit of overload pay (currently $1,200). Travel expenses including transportation, lodging, and meals are also covered.
Please submit course proposals/ideas to me at dcurry@ithaca.edu. Proposals should include title, description, topics for each session, potential speakers, and possible field visits to museums, agencies, offices, commissions, associations, theaters, and so forth.
I would be happy to talk with you about ideas and proposals. The submission deadline for proposals is October 17, 2008.
Thanks in advance and I look forward to hearing from you.
Debby
